Abstract

Our starting point for this paper is Luiz Tatit's analytical view on Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa, included in his (2010) book Semiótica à luz de Guimarães Rosa, among other essays. We intend to examine and describe here the tensive dynamics underlying the short story "A menina de lá" (from Primeiras Estórias, 1962). In order to do so, syntactic operations found beneath both narrative and discursive structures of this tale should be examined insofar as they are accountable for its sensitive-intelligible power. By creating this narrative's characters, Guimarães Rosa brings about some valuable clues on the conditioning of the interaction between fictional subjects.
