Linguistics, music and human cognition: from a static representation to a dynamical interaction

The aim of this paper is to present the main approaches of the cognitive sciences about natural languages and music, in order to outline a link between language, music and human cognition, and, with that, sketch the trajectory made from the Iniciação Científica research to the selection of the Master’s object of study. The approaches will be reviewed with the goal of exploring such object of study: the synchronized speech (and the joint speech), analyzed from a dynamical perspective of cognition and language. Thus, we support the relevance of the dynamical approach to account for the relationship between music and language, as well for the nature of speech itself, and introduce the joint speech as a productive object of empirical study to investigate matters that go beyond speech and language.Downloads
