Abstract

This paper investigates the semantics and pragmatics inferences in Brazilian Portuguese (BP) contexts which contains constituents with the informational function of topic postponed to the verb of the sentence. More precisely, this approach aims to answer the following questions: (i) Is it possible a post verbal topic structure in BP? (ii) Which discourse strategies occur in these answers? (iii) Why does the speaker choose a structure with the subject in the post-verbal position?
