Abstract

According to Dominique Maingueneau, in his work Literary Discourse (2012), every utterance, including the literary work, implies a scene of enunciation, which justifies his proposal to apprehend textual works as communication devices. The author also states that the scene of enunciation is composed of three scenes that operate on supplemental plans, namely enclosing scene, generic scene and scenography. From this enunciative category and others, this study aimed to analyze how the epistolary genre was constituted, among Brazilian modernists, as a privileged enunciative instance through which it was sought to found and legitimize the modernist movement in the field of Brazilian art. Some letters between Mário de Andrade and Carlos Drummond de Andrade were specially analyzed.
