Abstract

This study presents a characterization of the acoustic-prosodic aspects of duration, fundamental frequency (f0), and spectral emphasis (relative intensity) of syllables and their phones across pre-tonic, tonic, and post-tonic positions in intensifying words spoken by primary school teachers. The analysis was conducted through a text-reading experiment in three intensification contexts (neutral, intensified, and extra-intensified). Acoustic measurements were extracted using the GenAcousticsSegments script in the PRAAT acoustic analysis program. The data come from six participants (both male and female) who are primary school teachers from Campinas/SP and the São Paulo region. The results showed that syllabic duration increases as intensification contexts are applied, establishing an iconic relationship between syllabic lengthening and meaning intensification effects.
