Abstract

This article aims to discuss the methods employed in the acquisition of the mother tongue and foreign language by the Romans of Antiquity, considering the conception of infantia, pueritia as aetates uitae hominum as well as the characteristics and peculiarities attributed to them. To this end, we will rely on the literary texts produced in Rome during the first two centuries of the Christian era, highlighting how the system of education and the program of the Empire constituted a means of social ascension and prestige for the wealthier.
