The interpretation of parodized proverbs by aphasic and non aphasic subjects: the reflexivity of language

This study analyzes the process of signification involved in the linguistic-cognitive work required in the interpretation of parodized proverbs. Our work is based on a socio-cognitive
and interactional perspective on the relationship between language and cognition. The corpus, collected through a Protocol of Parodized Proverbs, consists of linguistic data produced by aphasic and non aphasic subjects. The linguistic and discursive processes involved at the meta-enunciative
task in relation to proverbs include: i) the recognition of pre-constructed proverbs; ii) its linguistic properties; iii) the recognition of cultural aspects that are not evident; iv) semantic-pragmatic inferences, and v) the recognition of meaning effects on the proverbial enunciation and on the
proverbial parody. This linguistic-discursive and cognitive work demand diferent levels of reflection about language from the subjects.
