Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss to what extent the writing of the clinical case
can truly reveal a therapeutic process which the clinician/investigator, more precisely his/her theoretical knowledge, can change. The report of speech therapy intervention with a boy aged three to seven years old gave rise to a reflection on the clinician’s interpretation issue. The latter, being submitted to the language functioning laws, appoints intentions and gives sense to the child’s manifestations. In this way, the clinician’s theoretical knowledge can be attached to two perspectives: one in language acquisition, interactionism, and the other in language clinic. They are the ones that allow for a confrontation to those that look for hints of knowledge in language categories or in communicative functions in child’s speech/gestures.
