The notion of time and the imperfective aspect: a comparative study between the specific language impairment and the typical development
Keywords:
SLI, progressive aspect, telicity.Abstract
This research attempted to check the comprehension and production of the imperfective grammatical aspect (progressive form) in telic and atelic events. Two year old children were investigated: a girl with typical development and another one with SLI. It was observed that the typical child presented a good performance, but the child with impairment had many difficulties especially with the past progressive form in telic events. However, this child demonstrated recognition of the temporality and, by using the information available on adverbial adjuncts, she
managed to mark the expected tense in some cases.
