Abstract

This study assumes the Bakthin´s considerations (1997) that the individual style is connected with the utterance and speech genres. We discuss this contiguous relationship based on data of the process of two texts composition. The texts werewritten by two pairs of high school students in an attempt to make them appropriate the speech genre “argumentative letter”. Ours questions were: do the two pairs of students use the same strategies for appropriating the genre or different strategies? Does the style of the genre take precedence over the student’s style or does it give scope for a placement of them? The collected data allowed us to conduct a deep analysis and to answer those questions going beyond the final products, which were the written texts.
