Finite and non finite transitive verbs in the contexts of formation of prepositional accusative in Classical Portuguese: change in diachrony

Classical Portuguese licenses the occurrence of prepositional accusative in finite and non finite declarative sentences. In contexts with finite verbs, the prepositional direct object occupies different positions in the clause structure, including the topic position. From the 18th century, the formation of the prepositional accusative structure decreases in all contexts, all the while evolving the formation of transitive sentences in the SVO/VO orders with the prepositionless direct objects.
