Abstract

The notion of transparency concerns the biunivocal relation between form and content, an extreme situation which in fact is not fully applied to the world’s languages. As the Functional Discourse Grammar (HENGEVELD; MACKENZIE 2008) is organized in levels and layers, each with its own units, it is a very suitable theoretical framework to evaluate the conditions of transparency violation. Thus, this paper aims at examining the relativization strategies available in Portuguese in order to discuss whether the conditions of transparency violation is applied to the interface between pragmatic and semantic levels, on the one hand, or between these two levels and the morphosyntatic and phonological levels, on the other.
