The linguistic variation between existential ter and haver in the speech and writing of São José do Rio Preto’s variety: analysis of the main group of factors

The general objective of this study, which analyses data in apparent time, is to verify two possibilities. Firstly, the occurrence of a consolidated process of linguistic variation between existential ter and haver in the spoken language in São José do Rio Preto. Secondly, the occurrence of the same process or a schooling process which promotes existential haver acquisition in the written language of children who attend Junior High School. The theory of this study is based on the assumptions of the Sociolinguistic Variation, developed by Weinreich, Labov and Herzog (2006 [1968]).
