Abstract

This study aims to analyze the historical constitution, linguistic formulation, and social circulation of texts and statements from Brazilian newspapers that, when addressing Bolsonaro's statement on September 7, 2022, made comparisons between Michelle Bolsonaro and Janja da Silva, the wives of the two main candidates in that election: Bolsonaro and Lula. The objective is to verify whether the silencing device extends even to women who do not hold a leading position. Supported by the postulates, notions, and procedures of Discourse Analysis derived from Michel Pêcheux (1978, 1997) and his group, articulated with the reflections of Michel Foucault (1969, 1970), we will analyze a set of data composed of three news articles published shortly after the statement by the then-president. Additionally, to address dicendi verbs, in particular, we will rely on the studies of Marcuschi (2007).
