Abstract

This manuscript aims to analyze the French women’s journal La Saison (1867-1909) and its translation into Portuguese, A Estação (1879-1904), under a linguistic and cultural viewpoint, based on a perspective that, according to Crépon (2016), assumes that every culture is, in its identity, the result of a translation or of successive translations. We intend, therefore, to verify how the translation of the French women’s press was decisive for the creation of the image and customs of Brazilian women in the 19th century, since cultural disseminated in Brazil at that time was imported from Europe, especially by the press and its translation.
