Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new syntactic typology of Portuguese correlative clauses i) additive (not only ... but also), ii) alternative (neither ... nor, either ... or, whether ... or, be it
... or, etc.), iii) consecutive (so much ... that) and iv) comparative (more/less/ before ... than, as much ... as, the more ... the more, the less ... the less, the more ... the less, the less ... the more.), which must be treated as a distinct process of clause combining, poorly supported by previous studies that deal with this subject.
