Abstract

This research aims to present and discuss the haplology process that occurs in word formation involving the suffix -çon in Archaic Portuguese (AP). In the analysis of the data, we note that OCP is one of the factors that play a role in the cases making syllables with the feature [+ coronal] on the onset not be adjacent syllables in the formation of derivatives with -çon. We further note that the syllable which is deleted is a light and unstressed CV, while the suffix is a complex and heavy syllable and therefore it receives the main stress. At the same time, the
morphological suffix carries the information needed to create a new word, and it is essential for the creation.
