Abstract

The lyrics of Brazilian popular songs are present in the collective imaginary of the
cultural community to which we belong and they are received affectionately by the audience. This article intends to reflect on the literariness, more specifically, on the poetical meaning effects on the lyrics written by Chico Buarque and on the modernity aspects that permeate his work. Our investigation is based on the French Semiotic Theory, which is based on structuralist studies developed by Ferdinand Saussure and Louis Hjelmslev.
