Dialogic relationships: the magazine cover and its article

Abstract

This article aims at presenting a proposal on the verbal-visual language based on the dialogic language perspective, using a magazine cover and one of its articles. In order to discuss this, a front page and an article were selected from Veja magazine, dated on January 27th 2010 and edition 2149. In the article, entitled “Haiti: do caos à esperança”, we observe the relationship between information and opinion expressed about the theme, the compositional form and the style, the relationship among utterances, the expected reader and the social context. We demonstrate that the magazine cover and the article maintain an intense dialogue with the purpose pf motivating the reader’s interest. We intend with this study to contribute to the reading of media discourse.
