The footnote effect
Keywords:
footnotes, annotation, literary history, the page.Abstract
This paper reviews five recent books on footnoting and annotation in literature and other forms of writing. After highlighting the centrality of this kind of marginal composition for literary debates from at least the seventieth century onwards, and after pointing out its relevance for nonliterary genres, this paper concludes that at stake is nothing less than a new configuration of page itself.Downloads
