Abstract

This paper proposes an analysis of the novels Essa terra and O cachorro e o lobo, by Antonio Torres, focusing on the movements of the characters in time and space and its consequences. The aim is to point out the way the transformations are represented in the author’s works, which are influenced by the contact with the lifestyle of large urban centers. These transformations are related to past modifications in landscapes and social and cultural aspects of contemporary sertão. Thereby, this study intends to show how literature effectively portrays the constancy of certain components of cultures in general and the change of others components, from the identification in the texts written by Antonio Torres, the update of some prototypical themes in different contexts.
