Abstract

The present paper, a result of researches carried out by the GHMP (GMHP in Portuguese) – Group of Historical Morphology of the Portuguese Language – aims at studying both the synchronic and diachronic aspects of the constellation formed with the suffixes -ismo, -ista, -ístico(a) and -ística. For such, initially we work with its Greco-Latin genesis and, after that, we investigate its evolution into modern languages. With that, we evaluate the importance of languages of culture and the importance of processes of translations in the international dissemination
of the suffixes in question.
