Abstract

We present a study about the translation of O matador and Inferno by Patrícia Melo. We reflected about how they project the violent context in the two works, and how much the translator recovered our social aspects. We believe that translators use some resources to make the target text easier to the readers. Baker (1996) suggests the investigation of translational behaviors which are characteristics of the language of translation. The purpose of this work is to identify normalization aspects presented in these translations. We looked back on Corpus Based Translation Studies (BAKER, 1993, 1996; CAMARGO, 2005, 2007), Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004) and also on normalization studies conducted by Scott (1998). We could observe changes in language register, omissions and aditions . We hope to contribute to the understanding of the tendencies presented and show how the intersection of translation studies and corpus linguistics can contribute to the development of the research in the area.
